All Hallows Eve!

A few weeks ago I held the fourth annual

WiTCheS' BReW

I was a fun party with AMAZING witches!

Bette was invited and got all dressed up in a witch costume..

The Queen of Halloween flew her broom north for the night.

Whivi(Viv's Witches name)was in attendance and looked FABULOUS!

I was so glad she made it north for the event!

All in all there were about 28 witches...

Plus a few inanimate ones...

The Cheetah-licious witch was the inspiration for my costume.

Margie is not only just a girl... she's just a witch as well.

There were Ballerina witches.

This pink haired witch might look a little familiar...

School witches...

Sassy Diva witches...

Masquerading witches...

And amazingly VOGUE witches...

Last month Caylor and I had the most amazing opportunity!

We were asked to go to the US Open in New York.

I haven't really ever followed tennis...

but I was about to experience something great!

It was perfect timing too...

We would be spending Caylor's birthday in

the city that never sleeps.

I know I didn't sleep... I was up and at' em early the second morning...

I walked down to the Today Show,

and visited the Top of the Rock.

Caylor could have cared less about seeing Matt Lauer,

so he slept in.

It was kindof cool to just walk down the street

in Manhattan alone.

Friday night we went to a comedy club called The Comedy Cellar.

It was hilarious! Judah Friedlander, the weird hairy guy from 30 Rock was doing stand up. He was FUNNY!

He had a shirt on that said, "Champion of the World"

I know what to get Caylor for Christmas

Saturday Morning we we off to the US Open.

As we walked in we knew we were in for an amazing experience!

The celebs were there in full force.

Justin Timberlake was in a suite a few down from ours.

We were totally gawking at stars like Catherine Zeta- Jones, Michael Douglass, Stanley Tucci, Ben Stiller, P. Diddy, Al Roker, and Mathew Perry. Not to mention the amazing athletes!

The greatest treat was when the door opened and John McEnroe walked into our Suite.

He was absolutely darling!

He gave us his opinions on what we were going to see,

predicted what would happen and answered any questions we might have. He even joked about a rumor that he had a bad temper.

He signed tennis balls for us all and really just hung out for about 30 minutes. It was so fun!

We were there for the Men's Semi-Final matches.

It was an all day event... I loved it!

The next day Caylor and I hung out at Central Park.

It was so beautiful! We had an amazing time.

We were there on 9/11 and it was surreal! There was a heightened terror alert so there were many police and military in the city.

All large cars were searched and there were actually military soldiers WITH guns in the street.

On Friday We walked 10,000 miles around the city.

We went down to the 9/11 Memorial. We really couldn't see anything because it didn't open until the following Sunday, 9/11.

There were many police officer bag pipe bands down around ground Zero on the day we were there. It was interesting to see them all in their different kilt uniforms.

I really wanted to tour the Statue of Libery and Ellis Island, but we ran out of time. NEXT TIME FOR SURE!

This was an amazing experience. I can't wait to go back!

Beginnings...

I think it is the school teacher in me...

but to me the beginning...is Fall!

Happy New Year!!

(school year that is)

My handsome Jackson... headed off to 8th Grade.
He has fun friends and is really excited to NOT be the
youngest in the Junior High anymore.

Mitch- He is a junior and he doesn't need to shave.
I think he thinks girls like facial hair...
I will let him keep believing in that myth...
if it keeps the girls away.

Meg is going to rock 4th grade.
She told me that this year she was only
going to wear jeans, tennis shoes & t-shirts.
Nothing sparkly, no skirts and no leggings.
A knife in my heart!

Fall also means it is Football season!

This is one of the reasons that I love Fall so much!

He starts defense playing Corner and is #13.
Next year he will get #19...
Seniors have priorities.

He loves this game!

And we all love to watch it!

Viewmont has a team photographer and she doesn't have to try
very hard to get these players posing.

Mitch pulled some ligaments in his thumb during the first game

against Woods Cross so he had to have a cast.

In order to play, he had to wrap it all up.

We liked to tease him that he was join' clubbing'

It must not have been too bad...

he caught 2 interceptions with the club.

The first game he played with the "club" the referees told him a few times not to use it as a weapon... Maybe he will take up boxing next!

Yes... Fall is the greatest time of year.

I love the Indian summers and the crispness in the air.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful thing!

19 years!

This week Caylor and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary!

It has gone by so fast...

Am I really old enough to have been married for 19 years?

It began with a water skiing date...

(that I ditched to go on a vacay on a lear jet)

and a Dixie College Sadie Hawkins Dance.

Two years later we were posing for our engagement pictures

and wedding photos.

We had an amazing basement apartment with VERY long

green shag carpet.

It seems like I just blinked and we are here...

19 years later.

With 3 kids... a mortgage and an SUV

He is still the love of my life.

I would do it all over again.

It is a known fact that I love me a good party!

I think the queen of everything party has to be

Tonia Jardine!

Today I witnessed something that actually took my breath away!

Tonia's son, Brennen, is going on an LDS mission

to Fort Worth, Texas.

He had his farewell today...

Absolutely the most darling party I have ever seen!

She went with the whole "Lone Star State" theme...

perfect for where he is going AND this time of year.

The buffet was spread out on four different tables...

with tented seating in the yard.

The food was amazing! The decor was so over the top...

I'm still reeling with excitement!

I've been to enough of Tonia's parties that I totally know what to expect. but, today she out did even herself!

She hit an all time new level of fabulousness!

She blew my skirt right up!

Everywhere I looked there was something fabulous to see and eat!

The most delicious and colorful, and darling

dessert table...EVER!

Flowers, glitter, lollies...

White shirt and tie food tags...

Lori Vest made an amazing Texas sized cake!

This was something to behold!

I am all sorts of jazzed because she served up a huge serving of inspiration for my 4th of July family reunion.

It is good to have a friend that is a creative genius!

Going through the Big D and Do mean Dallas

Well.. I wanted to blog again before it has been a month since my last post... I made it by just one day.

This week I made my first ever trip to the Lone Star State...

Texas!

I tagged along to Dallas with Caylor on a business conference.

Texas was great... humid, but great!

We went to a Texas Rangers game...

"Dubya"- George W. was there with Nolan Ryan and I was actually not across the stadium so I could somewhat see him. He even participated in the sunglasses at night gig...

The one thing I really wanted to see while in Dallas was the Texas Book Depository... Where Lee Harvey Oswald supposedly killed JFK.

Caylor went to meetings and I set off to the Sixth Floor Museum.

It was amazing. Remember... I am a history nerd so it was right up my alley. It felt surreal standing in that window, crossing the street to the "grassy knoll" and just being right there where history was made.

I wondered downtown Dallas... What a great city!

I was on a cell phone walking tour and found the

Dallas Holocaust Museum! EUREKA! It was such a fabulous find.

It was a big small, but they are hoping to relocate to a new location soon. I still loved it. I especially loved how they told stories of Holocaust survivors that had relocated to Dallas.

I think when I grow up I want to be a museum curator.

I had a wonderful afternoon in museums... historical museums- even better!

The true adventure began when we tried to come home on Thursday afternoon.

Key word= Tried... after 2 cancelled flights, an extra night in Dallas, 3 Delta mistakes, and a flight from Dallas to Atlanta to Salt Lake City... we FINALLY made it home.

A bit of a slump...

So... I've been in a bit of a creative slump lately.

Life has been busy...

baseball, school, amazing vacation (more on that later)

But, I HATE the "life has been busy" excuse more than anything.

EVERYONE has a busy life!

Everyone makes priorities to accomplish what they need

or want to accomplish.

Anyway... I was shopping in the Costco book section for ideas.

I am a kindle reader so I don't buy "books" anymore.

I came upon a few little gems written by Patti Digh and was

mostly intrigued by the darling covers.

I usually don't read self-help because I am

so whacked that I wouldn't know where to start!

I made an exception and WOW! I am glad I did!

AMAZING!

This is a fabulous read!

There are several exercises to do while reading each chapter.

A writing assignment, an action assignment, and something to think about for the next 37 days.

I have done a few of these assignments.

Loved them!

I am excited to start her second book...

Creative is a verb: If you're alive, You're creative!

I can't wait to read it...

I have been thinking about SPARK.

There is going to be a blogging panel.

I really believe that blogging is a way to be creative.

I need to blog more...

actually prioritize a time to blog.

I think it will help me get my creative groove on.

Summer is almost here...

Today is Saturday!

Anyone who grew up in Utah has an annoying little song

brainwashed into their heads...

"Saturday is a special day"...

I think it was originally written to teach a "keep the

Sabbath day holy" message, but has taken on a larger idea...

"a mass plot to get slave labor

out of offspring".

It worked when I was young and I am

trying to indoctrinate my own children with the

dogma that on Saturday we have to clean.

Some Saturdays are busy... Most, in fact.

So sometimes we go to ballgames or do something fun

instead of conquering the boring household chores.

Besides.. they are always here waiting... growing!

I am not a pig... and I married someone who is

VERY fastidious and clean.

So when I say my house is dirty.. I am not really ready to sign up for the show "Hoarders"... I just need to spruce up a little

and declutter a bit!

Today I woke up early and got my cleaning skank top on,

some ghetto capris and my tennis shoes...

My working uniform!

I washed bedding and cleaned my bathrooms...

Even my bedrooms, kitchen and great room

are cleaned dusted and vacuumed!

I kept thinking there has got to be a better way.

Maybe a little maintenance?

I remember this little website called the flylady

that I investigated at one time.

She has some fantastic ideas to keep up on

housework so it is not a

Saturday slave camp environment.

I am going to check her out and take some of her

ideas to heart!

One of her little acronyms is CHAOS

(Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)

I love to entertain... and lately I have been unable

host any parties or even have a

friendly bar-b-que due to the fact that my

house has been a little neglected.

That all ends today!

She has clever little tips...

the 27 fling boogie, hotspots,

swish and swipe and shine the sink.

She is really quite a house work genius.

So... until I develop a serious case of

housecleaning OCD or I make a million dollars to hire

my own version of "Alice"...

I am going to stick with the Fly lady and

get my house under control.

No more CHAOS!

Patterned After You...

Last week I did a segment on Studio 5. I was given the assignment of making something new out of something old. The inspiration piece that I was given to work with was: Vintage Sewing Patterns. They gave me a few pictures of various ways to use patterns.. such as framed vintage pattern envelopes, and Christmas stockings made from pattern tissue.

None of those really struck my fancy...

so... I let my imagination wander.

I thought of all the times I have

been in on a project using patterns.

I talked with friends...

I pondered what I could do with this idea.

Inspiration struck...

I went to a darling tea party for a 40th

birthday party! SO FUN!

I though back to all the times the girls in my family

would dress up and attend the

Lions Club Annual Mother and Daughter Tea!

There is was! I was going to plan a tea party using

vintage patterns... the theme:

PATTERNED AFTER YOU!

A perfect Mother's day celebration idea.

Here is my favorite part of the whole thing...

Bette (Betty)my body!

I got a new Bette and removed the jersey knot covering

and mod podged various scrapbook papers.

I added a Crinoline skirt and some

pattern tissue paper embellishments...

and Bette is ready for the ball!

I wanted to tie in the whole sewing...pattern...dressform vibe. I got miniature paper mache' dress forms from Michael's and Mod Podged tissue paper...both vintage pattern tissue and regular Cheetah tissue. This was part of my Studio 5 set up. I also had a giant cork board that I Mod Podged with sewing pattern tissue paper. I used hat boxes for height and variation... Tissue paper flowers and lollies embellished with pattern tissue paper. To throw in the Spring time element I Mod Podged paper mache' Easter eggs with the same tissue papers that were on the dress forms. Add chartreuse ribbon for color and you are good to go! This was a super fun and easy assignment! I had a blast planning all the elements of a Spring time tea party. Now... I just need to host actual soiree! I tried to embed the Studio 5 segment here on my blog as proof I was actually there... but had technical difficulties. So... Just go here and watch it from their site.

Deathbed Repentance

Last Friday... This was ME!

I really try to be a nice teacher...

The kind that is shaping minds and making

a difference in the lives of students.

I think it is important to be a fun and entertaining

teacher, but also hold VERY firm on what needs to

be done.

The end of the term makes me CRAZY!

It is a day I like to call "Deathbed Repentance" day.

Seeing that I am just getting back in the game... up to

this point I was

forgetful of procedures that needed to be discussed

BEFORE the dreaded day...

1. Have all late work DUE a few days before DBRD

2. Don't accept anything after class on DBRD

3. Email parents of above policies &

WARN them of what is happening.

4. Smile and hold firm

This term, unlike the last two, I was smarter than the average

7th grader and had my ducks in a row.

Friday was somewhat of a stressful day, but

pretty much a cake walk compared to the two previous DBRDs.

I really like being a teacher!

The kids are funny, it is nice to get out and about...every other day,

and I just like teaching.

I am just glad that Friday was basically the last DBRD of the year-

The end of 4th quarter they don't give a rip about grades...

school is out for the summer.

I survived and lived to tell the tale of DBRD at LJHS.

Gotta love talking in all caps!

One of Viv's favorite thing to say about life is...

"Life Upon the Wicked Stage"

Today I was at the doctor's office waiting for a prescription to be filled. I had to sit there for quite a while... it is flu season, you know. The Doctor's office is a wild place to people watch and while I was there I had a funny little Epiphany...

Life is made up of all sorts of stages...

I saw everything from pregnant women... some young first timers and some older with other children in tow- to geriatric patients walking carefully in with their walkers.

This is the stage I am in right now...

older children, but I still have my little family home with me.

It always kindof bugged me when my kids were little and we were out in public and they started throwing a fit(like they ALWAYS did, some "older" person would start longingly going off on how they long for those days with their kids.
That I really should enjoy them... I always smiled and kindof laughed but really thought "Whatever!" and rolled my eyes as soon as they walked away.
While sitting near the pharmacy I was watching a young mom... she really caught my eye because she had two boys (about 5 & 3)and one girl (about 6 months). When I see this... I am always secretly bonded with that mom because I know how thrilled

she was to finally get pink.
Anyway... I was stranger chatting with her... telling her (like the older person that I am now) how cute her little boys were and explaining to her that was the order of my children.
Her boys were running up and down the stairs... literally running... many many times.
She laughed and said that they had been sick with the croup and that this is what happens when they are not actually down in bed.
Well... They started to cough a little and she told them to come sit down... still more running... and then they REALLY started to cough. She really began to try to get them to calm down. All of a sudden... The oldest boy was coughing so hard he got all red and we both knew what was next. His cheeks puffed out and his eyes got wild... He was going to throw up. She grabbed a garbage can just in time and then the little brother started his coughing/ gagging routine. She was completely bewildered... and totally embarrassed! I told her I would watch her baby in the car seat while she took the boys to the bathroom. As I sat there talking calmly to her baby I just had to laugh at life. I had been this young mom with three sick kids. When the boys came out of the bathroom they were back to being crazy... touching everything in the pharmacy- begging for Spiderman and Sponge Bob bandaids.
As I watched that mom lug the car seat out with her wild banshees, I was a little sad that my boys were so big... that my little baby girl is now 9.
I instantly thought of the photos I had taken when Meg was born. My boys were such handsome little men... somewhat freaked out by the new sister.
Time marches on... and I have become a stranger talking nostalgic old woman admiring naughty little boys.
As I was looking for the newborn photos
I came across several more...
This is " The Boys of Tumble Creek"! The Dalley and Moorhouse boys looking for something to shoot while camping.
These boys are now all grown up... The oldest is now a senior in High School and will be going on an LDS mission this fall.
And yes... Mitch had swagger even at 7

I even miss the bleach blonde summer hairdos...
Now when they bleach it or cut it funny
it is done by the baseball team.
Last weekend we had a family party for my Grandma Connie's 80th birthday...
Connie is 80? I can't believe it.
Here are all the cousins out to Sand Hollow...
now these girls are in college.
Crazy how time flies... things change.
Tomorrow we are headed back to St. George for Caylor's Grandma Phil's funeral.
We are sad at the memories of such a fun lady, but at 93... There were more people waiting for her there than there were here sending her off.
It will be fun to go celebrate her life and see all the extended family. I think that is what it is all about...
Yes, Life is made up of many stages.
I think the secret is to enjoy and love
whatever one your in or on .
Wow.. this was little longer than I had thought it would be...
a little deeper too.
Oh Well... In the immortal words of Forest Gump,
"That's all I've got to say about that!"

HI!Remember me...

I used to be the girl that liked to do fun projects...

make things...

be creative?

Remember I used to like to have fun parties...

and hang out with my friends.

I think I had a fun life.

I even had my laundry somewhat done.

Now I swear I am this person...

A mean old school marm.
Since I have gone back to school my life has changed a bit.
I am only available to play every other day...
and parties? Not so much!
The laundry? B.A.D.
My life is a little different.
I was used to High School kids...
and now
I am teaching at at Junior High level.
There are good days and bad!
Some of my students are amazing.. some are very smart...some.. not at all...some I feel so sad for... and some I am hoping get strep or better yet, Mono.
I do love being a teacher... But I was arrogant when I returned.
In my previous teaching gig.. I didn't have many classroom management problems.
Now these little naughties have me running for the hills.
Just kidding... I will stay and fight.

Books!

Every January 1 try to make a silly little personal goal...

not necessarily a resolution, but something I can try to do for the year.

In 2009 I did a project 365.

I took a picture every day of the year and journaled about my day.

It was a pain... but I actually did it!

In January 2010 I decided I was going to try to read 52 books...or a book a week.

I am a reader, so this wasn't really moving Heaven and Earth to get it done...

just a little more effort and counting had to be done.

I did it!

Actually, I read 54 books.

A total of 21,221 pages.

This is something that is just little, and quite silly.

But I accomplished it!

My favorite book you ask?

Well... I read a lot of books and found some real gems!

But, Without a doubt... my favorite book of the year would have to be

GONE WITH THE WIND by Margaret Mitchell.

I had never read the book and only seen parts of the movie.

It was an amazing book and an okay movie.

I loved the characters!

If I were crazy enough to have another baby and it was a girl... Scarlett would be her name.

Rhett? What a man's man! Loved him too!

I especially loved the whole Southern Cultural Experience.

The history was amazing!

This is one book that everyone should read in their lifetime!

I logged all the books I read on Goodreads and have my 2010 book shelf on my sidebar.

I don't know if I will read as many books this year... it's not my 2011 goal.

I will still read quite a bit, but I'm just not worried about a number.

I have been pondering about how I could write about my holidays.

I wanted to express how much fun we had!

Maybe show all the great pictures that I forgot to take...OOPs!

Give my deepest thoughts and perspective on hitting one of life's milestones.

I really wanted to rival all the amazing blog posts that I have been reading...

Using beautiful words to create a holiday picture.

I have pondered and pondered...

It has prevented me from writing anything at all.

I am suffering from writer's block and out of timeness.

So...

My holidays were great!

F'in great in fact...

It included fun, friends, family and FOOD!

I have got a few things I really want to write about, but instead of pondering...

I am just going to get back into the swing of my blog.

I posted...finally!

It wasn't amazing... it wasn't fancy... it wasn't eloquent...

But I broke the ice and it is done!

I finally got my Christmas cards out!

Whew!Christmas cards are one of my favorite things about the Holidays!

I LOVE getting cards in the mail!

Sometimes.. this is the only contact I have with that person all year.

I usually get their card and then call to say how I loved it and get caught up!

I think it is so fun to see their family... how big their kids are... how bald their husband is...

JUST KIDDING!

I usually send a two sider... with a family pic and then on the backside a little blurb... very little about what each kid is up to.

I don't love the big old long braggy letters...

Just a blurb, please!

So..... Do you send cards?

I know that it is an expense that a lot of my friends are cutting out.

It makes me sad!

I do love your Christmas cards... I hang them on my pantry door...

In my quest to read 52 books this year I have come across a GREAT book.

This little jewel was recommended by my Sister- in-law.

If I didn't already love her... I would now!

This book, My Formerly Hot Life: Dispatches From Just the Other Side of Young,

is amazingly accurate and hilarious!

Stephanie Dolgoff is the author... as seen here with a few of her shoes... she's got 100's of pairs!

My sister in law and I were discussing the aspect of getting older, but not quite being old OLD yet...
I may or may not be having a HUGE birthday in a matter of weeks!
I can remember when my mom turned 40.. I drove with my boyfriend to get the balloons,
and now here I am...clawing onto my 30's for 3 more weeks-
ready to drop into the abyss of my 40's.
Just kidding.. I am being overly dramatic!
Anyway...
This book is so damn funny and TRUE!
Here are a few items off of a a checklist she has provided to see if you properly fit into the "FORMERLY" category...
1. The kids in High School are wearing what you wore in High School.
2. Your ass is starting to need a bra.
3. You freeze bread. Like there won't be another loaf at the store when you need one.
4. You have been "ma'amed" outside of the deep South.
5. Whereas you used to be grossed out by obscene catcalls, you are now relieved first, grossed out second.
6. You suddenly prefer interior design magazines to fashion magazines.
7. A supermodel could give you one of her kidneys and you would still hate her.

This is just a sample of how right on she is about life... my life!
She defines a formerly as the "tweens" of adult life...
Not young and hot, but not middle aged either.

She gives hilarious insight on fashion, friends, and health issues.
I almost cried laughing as she described how devastated she was when a thyroid test came back normal... weight gain, fatigue, and hair loss...she had all the symptoms.
So did I... I think I was on a hidden camera when the Dr. told me I was perfectly healthy... and then she wrote about me!

This is such a great read... It is my new go-to gift for my friends in the 38-45 age range.
You'll laugh, you'll want to cry, and you'll be proud to be a FORMERLY.

I am usually one that sticks with more traditional Christmas colors...

I have been loving the pink, green, turquoise combo for a fun whimsical Christmas.

I found some fabric that I LOVED for an apron I made to match the gloves I demonstrated on Studio 5...

I was going to give a few as gifts...
I have two extra.
I am hanging my shingle and going to put them up for sale.
I have never sold an apron before, usually it is only a labor of love.
I made a few too many...

A few weeks ago we had the family photo shoot...

We went to Saltair.. and the old abandoned trolley...

I love the urban grunge vibe the pictures show!

My kids actually did very well...

They hate getting their pictures taken so bad that it only happens every 3-4 years.

I love how she got individual shots of each of my kids...

She took a million of each kid.

I jokingly told Mitch he took a pretty good picture for being such an ugly boy!

I really love the graffiti for the boys...

Caylor and Mitch weren't so thrilled to haul it all over Saltair...

Meg's room is cheetah and red...

I am going to have one printed on canvas to hang in her room.

I was so happy how they all turned out!

Studio 5... Glam Gloves

Last Thursday I was on Studio 5... a local TV show.

I showed how to glam up rubber gloves.

I owe the inspiration to the apron/ gloves queen of the world, Sherry from Creations from the heart...

I was quite nervous, but it turned out to be pretty fun!

I think the closest I will be to actually wearing full length satin gloves is wearing full length rubber gloves... to do dishes!

They make fun girlfriend gifts, teacher gifts, accessories to an apron...

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year and I am going to be giving them out to my guests

Yesterday we had family pictures taken...

Now, this usually is the day from HELL!

I think as my kids get older... they become a little easier.

The photo shoot (sounds oh so professional) went really well...

it took 2 hours and there was very little wailing and gnashing of teeth.

We went to Saltair...

It is an amazing place... kindof urban and graffiti-ish in one place and cool architecture in the other. There is a old rusted out trolley... AMAZING!

Because I have been given much...

Because I have been given much.. I too, must give.

One of my favorite hymns.

When I feel overwhelmed or burdened or picked on... I try to sing it in my heart.

I have a dear friend, Margie...

She introduced me to an amazing thing...

We were talking about how November just gets crammed in...

Sometimes I think that Thanksgiving is like the middle child of holidays...

stuck between the over the top fun Halloween

and the forever favorite... Christmas.

Margie told me that she does an Attitude of Gratitude journal each November.

She takes pictures, and journals and really tries to freeze time

to count all the things she is thankful for.

This year I am going to copy her and do my own Gratitude Journal.

I've taken a few pics... jotted a few things down... but more importantly,

I have decided to stop the crazy for just a few moments each day to really

think and ponder about all the really great things in my life...

I do have some amazing things in my life.

I will stop and share..

and hopefully you will take a minute or two and ponder the great things in your life too.

When I tell you that I come from a family full of witches... you have NO idea!

Thursday night we all donned our witchiest ware...

and headed to a Witches Night Out sale at a St. George boutique.

Krumpets Home Decor was the place...

and witches was what we found. The store had a costume contest and had hired the next door neighbor photography studio to take pics of all the contestants.

We put a spell on the photographer to take a few group shots as well.

Carmen is my sister Jody's mother in law and Neva is her friend.
We had room for all!
We had such a great time... shopping and shopping and cackling and cackling...

Me... I had the same old costume as last week.

Meg- She decided at the last minute to join in the witchy tradition so we threw together a Halloween shirt and a mini-skirt. She had a darling hat and Halloween ribbon helped out as well... INSTANT COSTUME!

Here is the MOTHER of all WITCHES... Viv!

She is the Queen of Halloween!

Brandy was the costume winner in the "Bad Witch" category.

She won a $50.00 gift certificate.

She looked awesome in a little black skirt and a red and black corset...

I think she really won for "Naughty Witch"... there was nothing evil about her...

Just a little nasty!

She was the true costumer that night... She found most everyone's costumes for them.

She is also the Queen of Halloween costumes...

She has been Wonder Woman, A flapper, a Witch, etc. etc..

The amazing thing about her is that she makes fabulous coordinating costumes for her entire family... all theme related and matchy.

She is amazing!

This is Carmen Snow, Jody's mother in law.

She is one of the most glamorous women I know.. even as a witch...

She was the "Most Glamorous Witch" winner.

After shopping around at Krumpets... we took our witchfest on the road...

We ended up at Olive Garden for little bite to eat.

People were amazed at our costumes and all sorts of people

(from Senior Games athletes from Brazil to little kids)

wanted to have a picture taken with us.

I now know what it feels like to be Cinderella at Disneyland... JUST KIDDING!

It was such a fun night...

I am so lucky to have such an amazing mother and sisters...

I have never cackled so much!

Witches' Brew... on TV?

At the end of the witches' brew the other night we got a special warlock visitor...

Darrin Adams, host of KSL's Studio 5, dropped in for some Halloween fun.

He came in, hung out and visited with some of the witches...

I thought he just came over because a friend of his was invited and told him to swing by.

He had his camera and took pictures, but I didn't know he would talk about it on his show.

Imagine my surprise when I heard my little witches' brew made the local TV.

It was a fun little surprise... Hope you enjoy a little glimpse of the brew...

It was so great!

I was thrilled with all the effort my witchy little friends put forth!

We had pink witches, warty witches, school girl witches,

good ones, bad ones, and just plain old fabulous witches!

FINALLY!

October is my very most favorite month of the year...

Yes, even more than December!

The weather is FABULOUS!

The fall scenery is AMAZING!

The fall tasting good is DELICIOUS!

Halloween is so FUN!

What is there not to love?

With the crazy in my life ... I was a little slow getting up my fall decor...

It is done- FINALLY!

It is pretty much like it was last year,

with a few little changes and additions here and there.

When I was little my mom had some Halloween pictures we would hang on our big front window.
We also had the gauzey ghost and some freaky jack-o-lanterns.
But the excitement was when Viv would say, "If we wash the window then we can hang the Halloween pictures".
I don't know if it was proclaiming to the world that we were decorated or just the excitement of the time of year, but it was something that I still think of every year as I put my own Halloween decor up.
Viv has moved on from the Pictures... IN fact, my sister Brandy was the
Halloween putter-upper this year and she told Vivian she was not allowed to but one more witch or pumpkin.
She wasn't decorating a 10,000 sq foot house for Halloween... but she could.

I did get a new witch! She is the sister to last years addition.
I think I am naming her Penievia.

October means planning my witches' brew...

& just enjoying this magical month!

I am making homemade applesauce and soup today!
It is a perfect lazy Sunday.
This week the weather is supposed to feel more like fall!

Just a few words about SPARK no. 2...

Amazing, stunning, inspiring, entertaining, enlightening, creating, eating...

It was truly amazing!

I ripped these pics off of Spark the event...

Darling Rhonna chalked the building- so cute!
I had a great time...
My darling Viv saved the day by coming to help...
We fed 200 people 4 meals...
refilled a candy bar with over 100 lbs of candy...
I was a bit tired today.
BTW... I got the teaching job- so...
I go from event food planner, candy bar filler, hash slinger (JK)
to teacher.
I'm more than a bit crazy!
I just feel sorry for Margie... she slept a few hours and then
jumped on a great big jumbo jet to head to Florida to be on HSN.
I know she is really sparked over ( like hung over, but without the booze)

To teach or not to teach... that is the question...

Last weekend I got an unexpected phone call...

It was from the principal at Meg's elementary.

She knew that I just got re certified and was going to substitute teach a bit,

and wondered if I wanted to go back to work- half time.

She knew a Jr. High that needed a half time English teacher,

she'd already called the principal, and told me to call him... he was waiting for my call.

It took me a minute to process the information...

Did I really want to go back to work?

Half time would be great... every other day.

I talked to the Principal and told him I would get my resume packet into the district.

Last week I rushed around getting all my information...

transcripts, letters of recommendation, resume, etc

I interviewed on Wednesday at the district office and then Friday with the Principal.

I haven't heard anything...

I don't think I got the job.

I am okay either way... I can still sub- or not

I really like my days...

It was a crazy week, and I was a little nervous about going back to the classroom,

It has been 5 years- can I still do it?

I think it is good...whatever!

Boys of Fall

Today High Schools all across the state are having their opening football game.

Mitch's team has a scrimmage... for high school football!

His first official game is next week. I can't wait!

It just seems like yesterday he was all jazzed to finally get to play TACKLE football WITH pads!

We thought we were practically in the NFL... and with each level it has gotten even more fun.

Football is just one of the many reasons I LOVE FALL!

My friend, Collette, told me about this song... when I heard it I got a little teary!

When I saw the video I got a lot teary...

I know... Cheezy!

I'm not really even a country fan...

BTW... My only brother looks JUST like Kenny Chesney!

In our house football is THE sport of choice!

My father-in-law played college ball...

Caylor played college ball... even after we were married...

One of Caylor's brothers played in college.

All of the family LOVES the sport.

I didn't love it or even know what the heck was going on until I married in... I was so lame about football I wondered if a punt was for more downs or points. My father-in-law wondered what he'd allowed into his family.

Last year Caylor's parents made it up for most of Mitch's rec league games.

It meant so much to him.... This year POP is having a few health issues and doesn't know if he'll be able to come up. We hope so!

Bring on the Friday Night Lights...

To us... this IS the big time!

The first idea came from Celebrations. I made them for our Super Bowl party last year... super easy and fun! The next pic I just found on the Internet... from Joy's Chef Service... the frosting bag and I don't really get along too well... so I haven't tried this one ...yet. These would be so cute for any age football team OR a game watching soiree.

Although it is still a thousand degrees outside...

I can tell that the summer is winding down.

I am a little more cranky with the 3 meals a day being served &

the constant quest for fun and friends.

I have been school shopping... LOVE IT!

Getting a shopping fix AND serving a purpose equals win in my book!

The school clothes and shoes are sitting in the guest bedroom.

At our house... no new school clothes until SCHOOL STARTS!

The boys think it is a dumb policy and Meg just looks at them each day in anticipation.

I am getting ready to document the first day of school and MAYBE do a scrap book page to go next to the VERY last scrap book page I did.. ( Last year's first day of school)

The moms of my neighborhood are all making plans to get together "when life returns to normal and the kids go back to school"... It cracks me up that we were all soooo ready for school to be out and now we are all clamoring for structure.

Caylor was so happy on Sunday... There was an NFL game on TV. He said he can finally be happy again. ( In JEST, of course... I think)

Mitch has started playing HIGH SCHOOL football... YIKES am I that old?

Two-a-day practices have started this week.

He is begging for ICY-HOT.

We get to watch his first game next Wednesday...

I CAN'T WAIT!

Jackson is getting ready to take the Jr. High by storm...

He has big plans I tell you, BIG plans!

I will never have two kids in the same school again...

Well until they are all in Harvard together, at least!

But... This leads me to the very best thing...

I have noticed the stores are starting to carry their Halloween wares!

Oh... My beating heart be still.

I love fall!

I am all about decorating and celebrating the very best season of the year!

FALL!

I got into my Halloween box last week to borrow Margie a few things for her Halloween line in her CHA booth. I got feeling a little giddy and then when I saw a new witch's boot at Tai Pan I felt a LOT giddy!

I just love this time of year...

I can't wait to get out all my Fall/ Halloween decor and plan a few

spooky... witchy... harvesty gatherings!

It was a fun experience.

I live in a world where everyone around me is 100% prepared for

any sort of natural disaster.

Most people have 2 years supply of food... water...diet coke & chocolate!

The other day I was at my sister's house-

She was putting the finishing seams in a darling bike basket liner for her mother-in-law.

I thought something was missing so I asked her for a little bling to snaz it up a bit.

Doesn't everyone have an emergency stash of rhinestones and ribbon?

I am so glad she has her stash of whole grain wheat and rice, but I was a little stressed to find out that she is ill prepared with bling!

We were able to refashion some ribbon from a mother's day gift... some ting-ting from her Christmas tree, and a flower out of the scraps of fabric and make do... but it really would have rocked with some killer gems fastened here and there!

She was so shocked by my level of annoyance... She kept saying that she was the mother of boys...Weak defense!

I know what I am getting both of my sisters AND sister-in-law for Christmas! A small container with ribbon, a variety of gems, a little ting-ting and some kind of flower.

You never know when an embellishment emergency is going to strike!

Baby Boy Bolerjack is on his way...

and we decided to throw a baby shower!

The theme of the shower... or what became my inspiration

was the phrase "OH...BOY!"

I used lots of "B"s for Baby...Boy...

and their last name is Bolerjack.

Plus- I love the way a monogrammed B looks-

Lori Bolerjack is the mother-to-be... she is a lifetime family friend, and very best friend of my sister, Brandy.
Viv, Jody, & Brandy all came up from St. George to pull this thing off...
Together,there is nothing we can't do! Plus we laughed quite a bit and had a good time working together on something for someone we love!
The colors were chartreuse green and brown to match her nursery...

The week before the shower I made all sorts of lollies and pinwheels out of scrapbook paper...

it is a good think I have a total scrapbook goddess hook-up... MARGIE!

I used various sized Chinese Lanterns in Brown and white zebra, green, brown and white.

My favorite piece of decor was this Oh Boy banner.

I saw one on Celebrations at home and LOVED IT!

I changed the colors and the font a bit... but I was pretty happy how it turned out.

I was sure glad my sister Jody came to town... she is a baker extraordinaire and made all sorts of fun cupcakes. We also had dipped fortune cookies, cheesecakes, red velvet cake, and pineapple coconut cream cakes.

I did monogrammed pennants and colorful circles for the cupcake toppers.

The cream cake is made in a jelly roll pan and so it isn't the most beautiful thing to have setting out. I didn't want it to look like a ward dinner so... we pre-cut the cakes and put them in little individual wrappers. A really good idea when the cake is yummy enough, but not pretty enough to serve.

I knew there were over 100 people invited so I wanted to serve something that was easy, I could do partially ahead of time, and was somewhat inexpensive to do...

ANSWER= PASTA!

I made red meat sauce, Alfredo sauce, and a pasta dish I made up and my family calls Pasta Milano.

Green salad, and pretty artisan bread... easy and yummy buffet!

It was a great night... There were over 100 people that came and the best thing was all the food got eaten and everyone had a fun night!

There is nothing quite like good food and good friends to welcome a much anticipated baby boy!

Whew! It has been a crazy two weeks...

Here is what we have been up to-

Meg and I left our boys and took a girls trip to St. George the week before BEFORE Father's Day... but that was just swimming and sisters and drinking diet coke and laughing... not much to tell.

It all started with Father's Day.

Meg gave Caylor a bar-b-que apron that she bought at her reading store at school... he liked it better than the poinsettia tie she gave him for an early Christmas present.

You gotta love the "thrift" type of store that is a reward for reading minutes... Caylor LOVES all his apparel that Meg earns!

Caylor and I dug up some tubular 80's wear for Steve's 40th birthday party...

Caylor was not a fan of dressing up!

He said that if he would have wanted Thespian friends he would have made them with the Shakespearean Festival people while attending SUU.

We got him some white pants and a pink shirt... add a little scruff and the aviators and he passed as Sonny Crocket or George Michaels or a preppy- WHATEVER!

The real side show was the birthday boy himself...
Steve pulled out all the stops and really made Vegas sit up and take notice.
( That, my friends, is hard to do... WEIRDOS= VEGAS)

p.s those are RED SHINY SPANDEX in all their glory and Kamari made a great skanky hairband groupie!

So... She was the official photographer!

After partying in Vegas like it was 1999... we all headed back to the land of milk and honey...

St. George for a week of fun in the sun.

We had family parties... this is Caylor and our niece... Brecken.
Mitch and Collin... just chillin' in the 108 degree weather...
( oh yeah.. this is Caylor's youngest brother.. we can't say little anymore- he is a whopping 6'6"+)
Nice headbands... everyone had to wear them to celebrate the 4th!
It was fun to be with Caylor's family.
All of his siblings were there and all the grandkids, except one that is vacationing in Australia...

We stayed at my sister's house while she was in California and tended her dog...
Meg was in heaven...

She was such a great tender!
This is my littlest nephew, Briggs... so dang cute!

Oh... oops...this pic was out of order... oh well... I forgot to mention that Jackson's team took 3rd place this year. Pretty amazing considering they played like the Bad News Bears for most of the season.

We also got a brand new boy...

Mitch was my tall dark and handsome son-

now he is a blondie!

He had his aunt Mindy apply a little bleach to the hair...

We warned him that if he is in the pool too much the chlorine will turn his golden locks mossy green and he will have to have a ketchup wrap treatment.

YUCK!
He was very good at rinsing his hair after swimming. I wondered if he was going to make me buy him a swim cap.

While we were in St. George we took all the kids to Little Chefz.

So much fun.

Caylor's brother and his wife, Gen, own it and it is the cutest thing in the whole world.

It is a cooking school, preschool, baby sitter, etc., etc.

Last time we were down the kids all got to go and make their very own pizza.

This time they got to make cupcakes for the fourth of July.

They made the batter from scratch, rolled out fondant frosting, and added embellishments to make their cupcakes SPECTACULAR!

This is Meg and Aunt Gen... Little Chefz is such a fun place to be.

I love her confidence!

Jace can be the muffin man... or the cupcake kid. He said he wants to go back EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Kally was the QUEEN of the SPARKLES! She used every single sparkle and embellishment.

She is my kind of girl... More is MORE!

The kids had so much fun...

I would have put Mitch and Jackson's picture here, but they were way to busy going to movies.

One day they sat through two movies back-to-back.

So funny!

But what do we expect it was 108+ degrees outside...

I was sad to leave the fun and games of being with family all week...

but the party continues...literally!

Next week Viv and the sisters are coming up to help me throw a baby shower for one of our family's dearest friends.

She is having a baby boy... the colors are lime and brown... I think the theme is... Oh, BOY!

I was chatting with the expectant mother yesterday and she was having stress when I told her I haven't really thought about the shower yet.

The invites are out...

I am pondering on it.

VIV.. the QUEEN of all parties is on her way up...what else do we need to do? Inspiration will come...

Why worry- it will be FABULOUS!

That is what has been happening in my world... a little chaotic, a little crazy... for me- that's the norm!

In my quest for 52 books... I just finished reading

Gone With the Wind!

AMAZING!

It wasn't the easiest read in the world...

Basically a discourse on Southern living pre and post Civil War...

With a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure!

And am I glad it was thrown in!

Rhett and Scarlett... LOVED THEM!

Ashley... Really Scarlett? What were you thinking?

I read all sorts of reviews on it before I read it and there were so many claiming this to be such a racist book...I don't think so!

Margaret Mitchell explained EXACTLY what it was like,I felt like I had been transported back in time.

Scarlett- Let's talk about the original DIVA!

She was strong,and beautifu, and manipulative, and pretty much a brat...

AND I loved her.

Too bad there are no more kids for me... I would be all about

having a daughter named Scarlett...

I wasn't as familiar with the story as I thought I was... I kept waiting for Rhett and Scarlett to just get over it and live happily ever after!

I still think that they will end up together!

Rhett Butler... The scalawag, carpetbagger, devil,

perpetual bad-boy...

LOVED him even more than Scarlett!

I loved how he was who he was...like him or not!

And the line...

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!"

I can see why both the book and the movie have stood the test of time.

If nothing else great comes from my little 2010 reading challenge, that is okay...

I found one of my new favorite books!

I am not a real lover of the classics... but this one

is a must read!

I have always been somewhat curious/obsessed about the South and the Southern way of living...

This just added to that desire... bring on the Civil War, Pat Conroy, and a trip to the Bayou.

I gotta get to the original Dixie!

I am headed to the pool and have left the baby oil and the tin foil sun reflector at home.

I am fully covered with sunscreen...

and a cover up!

(Mostly because I don't "work" the bikini like I used to...)

Meggie and I are on vacation!

The boys in our lives are too structured and involved!

I think they are having a vacation from me... and loving it!

We came to St. George to party with Viv and the sisters...

I intend to laugh- ALOT!

We are armed with our floats, lots of diet Pepsi...

A is for Apron...

The last week of school is ALWAYS very hectic!

I think it is all the hustle and bustle before freedom...

I knew that Meg's teacher is a fabulous cook...

so...

I wanted to make her an apron!

TA-DA!

I also had a dear friend that had a birthday...

She doesn't love to cook, but she has admired my aprons hanging from my pantry door.

So...

I decided to make her one too.

I made some matching gloves that were all blinged out...

I stitched it with red thread... SO CUTE!

We have loved her and both Meggie and I are so happy she is our neighbor so we can keep in contact.

My Biggest Boy is getting BIG!

Mitch turned 16 today...

Where did the time go?

Was I only 10 when I had him?

He is an AMAZING kid...

He is funny...

& able to DRIVE and DATE? YIKES!

I am so proud of all his accomplishments!

He is a great big brother to Jacks & Meg!

We are very lucky to have him for a son!

In Full Bloom... Baby Shower!

You all know how much I love a good party...

Well...

Last Saturday I attended a baby shower that

was completely OVER THE MOON!

The Shower was given by Cindy Woodward, Tasha Lemmon & Kim Chournos.

The Theme was "In Full Bloom" &

everything about the party bloomed SPRING!

I made the invitations for them... I loved the House of 3

"Spring Junque" designs!

This giant flower was hanging on the door & welcomed the guests- AMAZING!

This was the buffet's floral centerpiece. You can't really tell, but those are huge moss butterflies and spring blossoms coming out of the top.

I don't know if that is Mother nature representing Spring or the Sugar Plum Fairy, but it was all so- well...

School Days...School Days!

I have got to be up early...

It's a school day for me!

That's right... I am headed to class today!

I am taking a relicensure class this whole week-

to be re-certified as a high school teacher.

I think by the end I will be "certifiable"...

Probably crazy- wait... for sure crazy!

There is nothing better than a few education classes to get the blood pumping.

Oh, yeah... That is why I taught High School... content area.

NOT so many Ed. classes

I did prepare early... I got a cute notebook so I could be like Elle Woods- only I am not blonde.
I wish I had a fancy zebra laptop or something...

I have got so many things I wanted to blog about...

My old neighbor that is new again,

But instead I am headed to be a college girl for a week.

Easter 2010... Sand Hollow Sand Dunes

I usually really like where I live...

BUT...

When it says "Spring" on the calender-

(Notice I say when it says Spring on the calender because I would never know it looking outside my window at the SNOW!)

I get homesick for BlUE sKiEs & ReD rOckS!

St. George has the corner on the market for Spring!

Our little family left the cold

and headed South for Spring Break...

AND...

We met up with the entire fam-damily for a little Easter Picnic at the Sand Hollow Sand Dunes.

We all rallied in the RHINOS and had a great time!

We had over 40 people...

3 Snow families, 2 Spilsbury families, 1 Fillmore gang, 1 Dalley bunch, & 2 herds of Nelsons.

3 grandmas, 2 grandpas, 15 kids, many aunts, many uncles, 6 RHINOS, hundreds of Easter eggs, food for an army, lots of laughs, many pictures & a Happy Easter!

Here is the oldest...Grandma Connie and the youngest... Briggs.

Briggs didn't worry if there was a little Dixie red sand

on his food...infact, I think his diapers will be sand blasted for a long time.

So many fun cousins! These kids were BRAVE! There was a 50 foot cliff right behind them.

This is a picture of all the kids right before the Easter Egg hunt!

There were some VERY golden eggs... Mitch made over $50.00!

Caylor & Connie were just chillin' at the Sand Dunes!

They all hiked up on a cliff and were chucking Easter Eggs...

Grandma Viv said we were going to "roll Easter Eggs"... she just didn't think off a mountain!

All in all it was a fabulous was to spend Easter!

50th Birthday Bash Extraordinaire!

Last week my friend, Cindy Woodward, turned 50!

Her daughter Tasha schemed up an amazing 50th birthday extravaganza...

and I was able to help Tasha with a few little birthday projects.

We made big posters celebrating Cindy's life...

as a wife, mother, & grandmother.

The one pictured above is the one showing her family...

We used a ton of pictures from her whole life for centerpieces, posters, etc.

Here is a picture of Cindy, Tasha, and Roger just after Cindy got there...
It was a surprise party and over 100 guests were there...
It was amazing!

The fabulous birthday cake...

Some parties have open bars... and we had an open DIET COKE bar!

Anything you could imagine to spruce up your coke... they were even FOUNTAIN drinks WITH pellet ice!

I designed the insignia for the party... the crest and crown using House of 3 brushes.

We had them printed on sticker paper and then punched them out to decorate each cup.

Who needs umbrella drinks when we have blinged out flower straws?

We had a candy bar with Cindy's favorite treats.

Each different jar had a little sign explaining the

significance of each candy.

The centerpieces were floral arrangements with a picture of Cindy attached to a glitter stick.

There were pictures of her from her whole life.

Tasha dug through her grandma's house and found pictures that Cindy hadn't seen in years.

It was such a fun way to celebrate her life.

Everyone loved looking at the pics... the 70's hair was the best!

This was such an amazing party! I was going to take a million photos to show how spectacular it really was, but I was having such a great time... I FORGOT.

It really was a stunning event!

Swap Til You Drop!

Today is the day I can finally tell all about my party...

I did it for Studio 5... and it airs today.

They asked that I not blog about the specifics until today!

It was a "Swap Til You Drop" party...

The notion of "One Girlfriend's JUNQUE is another Girlfriend's treasure" was in full swing!
My darling cousin, Courtney Orton, is a contributor for Studio 5 and she asked that I throw this party as a story for her!
Everyone was a little nervous at the idea of being on TV,
but they all looked great!
Some of the goodies that were brought to swap were: homemade salsa, clothes, home decor, books, and crafting supplies. I told them all to bring something "fabulous" that they don't love anymore! They all brought the greatest stuff.

We had yummy treats, fantastic company, and we all
"Swapped Til we Dropped!"
The motto was: Shopping, Girlfriends, and Chocolate... Could it get any better than this?"

The take home favors were giant candy bars and reusable grocery bags... glammed up, of course!

We all had such a fun time. I was a little nervous to have a TV cameraman attend the party,but it all went off without a hitch. It is on today at 11:00 on KSL!

The other great thing that came from it was that I am teaching a party class at DEAR LIZZIE! I am going to share 2 versions of this party- GO GLAM & GO GREEN! It is on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30. You will get invitations, favors, a style folder, and a really great time. I am going to share all my party secrets and ideas so you can get all your girlfriends together and "swap til you drop"! I know that there will be white stuff falling from the sky sticking on the ground again, BUT...

I think Spring is trying to spring!

It was 65 degrees yesterday and I decided to welcome Spring!

Spring Cleaning? No... Spring decorating!

I found these eggs at Rod Works and just had to have them...

they are alphabet eggs. So CUTE!

Here is my table... It is still a work in progress...

We'll see how it ends up.

Maybe I will Spring clean today.... probably not!

It felt good to get the Mod Podge out and be a little creative- maybe I'll look for a new project!

Looking for a good book...

I have made a goal to read 52 books this year... needless to say...I have been reading late into the night.

I wanted to share a few books with you... BUT more importantly I want you to share your favorites with me.

I am looking for a good book (or 40)!

Here are a few of my favorites that I have read since January...

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo-

I was a little hesitant to read this... sounds a little gruesome, but both this one and the sequel were very interesting and thoroughly enjoyable reads. The bad thing... the third and final book doesn't come out until May. So... if you are going to Europe and can pick up a copy- get me one too.

The Girl That Played with Fire...

The Sequel to the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo... don't let the human trafficking description detract. It is mentioned, but NO detail goes into it. It is like a subplot in the background. A great book... I just can't wait for the next one!
Hotel on the Corner of Biter and Sweet...
Such a good book. Set in 1942 in Seattle, this book deals with the relationships between Japanese Americans & Chinese Americans after Pearl Harbor. I love historical fiction and this one doesn't disappoint.

A Reliable Wife...

I had heard much about this book, yet was hesitant to read it. I wasted time... it is all about a rich man that orders a mail order bride. What gets off the train was not what he thought he was getting... She tries to kill him. An interesting book with many twists and turns...

I have read 12 out of my 52... so I am running ahead of schedule. Just 40 left to go.

I am looking for some good old fashioned chick lit... I have read all of Sophie Kinsella's and LOVED them. What have you read? What do you recommend?

The Uniform...

Today's post is all about fashion/lingo...

This pic is of a uniform- and no its not me.. it is my fatter, uglier twin

Let me explain...

I love to wear "uniforms" in the winter...

especially on cold winter days when I stay home.

I have been know to throw on some cute earrings and some fashion flat shoes ( or on snowy days...sigh-UGGS)and venture out in a uniform. I am realizing that it might not be the best fashion choice, but comfort & warmth rule.

I am not wearing baggy elastic at the bottom sweats with one of my man's t-shirts... but I know I am only a few steps away.

It all started the winter of 1990...

my cousin, Teisha, and I lived in an apartment together.

I was going to Dixie College and she was going to Beauty School... and we both worked at restaurants until about 10 or 11 at night.

We loved to be together and laugh and since that was our only time we hung out and goofed off until about 3 am. We drank lots of coke and basically just sat around and made each other laugh. She had a missionary and was in nun status and my boyfriend, Caylor, lived in Salk Lake. No need to impress-It was cold... it was winter... we wore sweatsuits. We didn't want to do laundry and we didn't have 7 different sweat suits SO... we wore the same thing every night from about 10-3... hence the name... UNIFORM. We probably wore the same ones for at least 10 days unless we spilled something on it or laughed so hard we wet our pants. I think it was picked up from a heap by our beds too... no need to hang anything up or fold it! I think we laughed so hard those few months- we had abs of steel!

When spring hit we moved home so we could buy spring and summer clothes... so it was a few choice cherished months of uniforms, late nights, frozen yogurt, hilarity (I just made that up) and diet coke.

That was many moons ago.. but the name UNIFORM and the love still remains.

I know they are not the most flattering things, but boy do I love me a good uniform. The uniform of choice is usually black velour- it is soooo slimming. HA! Here is to Teisha(the funniest girl in the world), Velour, lots of Coca-COla, and cold winter nights laughing our sweatsuit covered butts off...

Ahhh.. the good old days!

Gooney Bird Greene?

Gooney Bird Greene? NO... Meggie!

This is the day Meg has been waiting for all. year. long.

Gooney Bird Green dress up day.

Her teacher read the books to them aloud in school and Meg has absolutely LOVED them!
I think GBG is the Pippi Longstockings of this generation- How I LOVED Pippi! I wanted to go to Villa Villekulla and hang with Tommy and Annika and Mr. Nelson!

I need to read the books and get caught up on pop culture- 2nd grade 2010 style.
Meg tells me all the time I am so out of it!
Her outfit consisted of leggins, Pants cut off at different lengths, hiking boots, a ballet tutu, underarmor, her swimming suit top, a bright shrug, different socks ( GBG doesn't feel comfortable in matching socks... I heard this all morning) and a diamond ring. Meg was so mad I didn't have long black gloves just hanging around... If she would have told me... I would have! GBG wears under wear on her head, but the teacher put the brakes on that idea. Meg was so excited and I was glad that she was loving the character from a book. Yeah reading...

This was a party that was a HUGE deal in my life (more details later) and I am so appreciative for friends that celebrated a pretty special event with me. It meant so much to me to have people there rejoicing and happy for me. Positive energy works... so thanks... Vanessa, Courtney, Collette, Kellie, Tiffani, Sandi, Suzanne, Marla, Kim, Tonia, Kim, Angie! I missed Margie, Cindy, Tasha & Kami... next time- for sure!

It is a good thing I drink lots of Diet Pepsi, have some serious schlack for hairspray, and have such great friends that are able to be happy for me in life's little celebrations!

Well...it has been a bit since my last post... I have been a little crazy as of late.

Can you say President's Day Weekend?

Plus I have been working on a new little project- I will explain more about it later...

We had a little Superbowl gathering with the Lancaster family...

they are so cute and so fun to be with!

I made some football cupcakes.

All I can say is... I am not going to be giving "Sprinkles" any competition any time soon. I am NOT a baker!

I was rooting for the team that had the most points... I swapped sides a few times. We had a fun time!

Meg and I did lots of little Valentine projects...

This is a photo of Meggie before going to the Lion House to a birthday tea party... She LOVED it!
For Meg's class Valentine we did a smaller version of the candy bars I posted earlier. We had to do a girl version and a boy version because Med didn't want the boys to have any pink on their Valentine...only red.

We also made some Valentine Fortune Cookies with special messages in them... Some were pink others white a few brown...all with sprinkles! We packaged them in Chinese take-out containers tied up with Valentine messy bows.

I think we were the only people in this state that weren't in St. George for the holiday weekend... We went to movies, snowboarding, had a few visitors and just kicked back all weekend. It was PERFECT!

A few friends...

At the beginning of last week Jacks started asking if he could have a few friends over...

It began with about three of four...

and it ended up 20?

Jacks has some really cute friends...boys and girls-

that all hang out together every weekend.

I have noticed that the girls are on the cusp of being teenagers - cool and older...

and the boys are still just kindof dorky!
Maybe wearing shoes in my house would have been cleaner
than the pile of shoes by the front door.

They had pizza and snacks and then watched a scary movie..

I knew it had to be PG or PG-13 at the most so I let Jacks get

The Sixth Sense... oops I forgot just how scary that movie really is!

I had 20 kids screaming and hiding behind pillows!

I guess that is one way to get out of having a party... no mother will allow their child to come to a video party at my house because their tween had to sleep with them due to the scary movie I allowed. OOPS... MY BAD!

Overall... it was a fun night. Kindof loud and crazy, but Caylor was out of town and Mitch was at a friends house so I allowed it to just be what it was.

I am glad Jacks has such a fun group of friends...especially because it isn't at my house again for a while.

Valentine Candy Bars...

Last fall my friend Tonia and I were in Park City at a darling little boutique

& saw some specialty giant candy bars.

I was all over them... loved them... until I turned one over and saw the price...$15.00!

I just about died... so I took a mental picture and have been duplicating it for just a few dollars ever since.

They make the greatest little gift or party favor.

This week I learned a new word... TABLESCAPES!

To think for all these years I have been calling the crap on my tables...business.

Tablescapes is such a sophisticated word.

Friday I was trying to get motivated to clean my house and I saw a jar of peppermint candies with a messy bow from Christmas that I needed to take downstairs to storage... I incorporated a bit of red this year and I guess I was still incorporating it.

I thought "that is cute ribbon... if it had pink in it? I wonder....hmmm..."

I need to state that I DON'T love hearts, therefore, I have never decorated for Valentines Day.

Well... I got the idea to add a little pink ribbon to my Christmas stuff and buy a few thousand dollars worth of pink M&Ms and I would maybe put out a few holiday seasonals.

I only spend $20 dollars or so ( besides the M&Ms) and have a new Valentines Day TABLESCAPE!
I decorated my entry table and my kitchen table in pink and red.
I didn't buy one thing with a heart and I still pulled it off!
( I had a few things given to me with hearts... but I haven't bought one)
A few red frames and some pics of my little loves... easy peasy.

Candles and apothecary jars with candy...done!

I am not a pink lover...so I used hot pink and red.

I used lips and other items instead of hearts.

I think this is going to be a good thing & it took my mind off of cleaning my house.

Once I start to decorate I want to clean so it all looks so nice.

I killed two birds with one stone!

So... Have a heart, no wait... don't.

I have always heard that when you are a little bit down..

count your blessings and be grateful for all the things you do have!

I am not going to lie...

January bums me out...

no money, shopping, decorations, fun or sun... kindof gloom after the glow of the holidays.

So... Here I go to acknowledge all the great things I have going for me...

Here is what I am thankful for:

1. A fun weekend spent with girlfriends... we laughed and partied from afternoon till the cows came home. Thanks for all the fun girlies!

2. My laundry is almost done... I have been somewhat grounded this week- so... I have got the unmentionable chore almost done. Now if my family would just go on the "same underwear all week plan" things would be good!

3. My Man- Caylor has been travelling ALOT lately and I am pretty much over that. I like him to be home with me and his offspring. I will be glad when this traveling circus is over. The positive side of him being gone is... we can have pancakes for dinner!

4. Jessica Sprague- Wow! Anyone interested in improving their adobe photoshop skills should check her out... She is an amazing teacher... I am developing some mad skillz!

5. Diet Pepsi- Really! Where would my life be without my caffeinated motivation?

6. The phone- I am a phone talker! I love to whistle while I work... I am not quite keen on the whole email, text message, non-verbal communication. I am an instant gratification kind of girl...

7. The Sun- I am so glad the sun was out a bit this last week. Being a St. George girl, this winter inversion kills me. I just need me some Vitamin D once and a while!

8. House of 3- Digital stuff that rocks my world! Rhonna Farrer is the designer for most of their stuff and she is A-MAY-ZING! check them out... you will be glad you did!

9. My Project 365 is mostly done... I have them all done, just a few in December still to finish up. The next thing I will have to do is to sell some plasma, hair, children, or drugs to be able to pay my Costco photo bill... It is going to be big! This has been a major project... 365 days of pictures and journaling. I thought I was really brilliant and did an individual page for EACH day in December... What was I thinking? This year I am doing 52 Simply Amazing weeks... simplify!

10. My kids- Last, but not least, I am so glad that my kids have been really good while their dad has been gone. I think I will keep them!

Ahhh...
to be young again!
Mindi was in town this past weekend for a certain party of Tiburon's...
We decided to kill 2 birds with 1 visit...so to speak

Celebrated her upcoming 40th birthday!

We first all met at the Cheesecake Factory only to be told there was a 2 hour wait...so we all (Mindi, Vanessa, Tiburon, Kami, Melissa, Kati, Shannon, Arianne & I ) headed to the Macaroni Grill for a little dinner and socialization... complete with balloons and glitter cups for all!

Yes... 9 bloggers and no pictures!

LOSERS!

After the non-documented dinner we headed to Tiburon's "party"...

all I can say about that is I have never laughed so hard! We had a really great time... 3.5 hours later we were all headed home...

but we decided we weren't quite finished with the party...

so... we loaded the balloons and glitter cups and went to Cheesecake Factory again.

The good news was at 10:45 pm there isn't a wait!
Kami, Mindi, Vanessa, & I sat at CF and laughed until well after closing and we got kicked out.

We then continued to Mindi's hotel where we sat up and laughed for a bit later...much later!

I am much to old to stay up that darn late.

It was a great girls night out and I loved just hanging out and laughing with everyone.

New Aprons... for the Girls Paperie!

The last few days I have been working on making 4 aprons

for Margie to take to CHA ( Craft & Hobby Association)...

Pink newsprint is huge in her line... so it is fun that she found black and white newsprint and dyed it pink!
I like how it turned out... it is a utility apron... big pockets, funky fringe & pom-poms, and fun bright colors!

Here is Miss Margie modeling the apron... so cute!

I think I might just be making a few more aprons...it was fun!

Saturday Meg and I had ski and snowboard lessons...

Yes, you heard right Meg and I!

I have decided the lodge is amazing, but it is time I hit the hill.

Meg ditched the skis for a snowboard and I am trying to brush up on my mad skills-

Vancouver here I come... move over Peekaboo!

The Dew Tour was being held at Snowbasin...so

after skiing we hung around and watched the action.

A-MAY-ZING!

I was the photographer and the boys stayed home to play in the ward basketball championship so... Caylor and Meg were the models and representatives of that day.There was a little vendor fair... food stands... etc set up that we walked through.

Meggie sweet talked the guys at the Verizon booth for some super cool gold Elvis shades.

She loved seeing the tricks and just being there... She is digging the idea of being a girl snowboarder.

It is all about attitude and she has plenty of that!

It was such a fun day... I am old and tired and was pretty sore, but I think I am going to like being Suzie Chapstick.

ps I got off the bunny hill and went up the BIG mountain... I am improving rapidly!

But still kindof an idiot on skis!

20 years? Really?

Friday I was folding laundry and began channel surfing to help entertain me in my trying hour...

I came across Pretty Woman on Lifetime...

They were celebrating 20 years of Pretty Woman!

20 years? Really?

I was magically thrown back through time to my freshman year in college...

Oh... I think we all saw this 10 times in the theater...

The soundtrack...LOVED IT!
It was the first time I had heard of the Red Hot Chili Peppers... Who woulda thunk it!

I especially loved that her name was Vivian and his Edward... Those are my parents names.

My sisters and I have used the Kit DeLuca, " Yo, Viv babe." many a time.

Loved the story...

But I really LOVED her clothes the most...

I can totally remember searching for a polka dot dress like this one... and I so wanted to wear a hat...

My sister, Jody, had an outfit like it and she rocked it!

I really wanted an orange linen short outfit like she wore when Kit came to visit and uttered the famous line... Cinder-freakin'-rella.

Ahhh... I so enjoyed the scene where she spent an obscene amount of money...

And picked up a tie for Edward... then modeled it later!

But the best line was, " Don't you work on commission? You wouldn't help me yesterday... Big Mistake... Huge?"

After seeing this movie... I really wanted to love Opera... I really wanted the chance to attend the opera in San Francisco... in a lear jet!

I almost got teary when the Roxanne song, Must of been Love, played as she is riding in the back of the limo.. going home.

It was a most pleasant afternoon spent folding clothes...

I loved this movie so much I actually went to Target and bought the DVD...

I had it on VHS, but well... you know how technology is... OBSOLETE!

I can't believe it has been 20 years... but it was still as great as it was when I first saw it...

It has stood the test of time... I still LOVE IT!

I heart my new Kindle!

I am not a real techy kind of girl...

Until this Christmas!

I am entering the 21st century... just a decade late.

I got rid of my ghetto phone for an iphone...

I got a wacom tablet for my computer...

AND my new love is my KINDLE!

I was hesitant at first... I love books.

I love the paper, the smell, Barnes and Noble... just not the space books take up after reading.

I know I could check them out at the library... but I don't.

Last year I read 33 books... I decided this year I am striving to read 52 AND do laundry too...

This should be interesting!

My mom and dad gave me a Kindle for Christmas... I think I am in love.

I have still got to really learn all the ins and outs... but it is going to be a good thing for me.

I still will go to Barnes and Noble to peruse the selection... decide... look at the covers...smell the pages. Then I will just order it right up on my KINDLE!

I am already 2 and 1/2 books down... only 49 1/2 to go.

Wish me luck...

(Oh, and my laundry is even mostly caught up... January and resolutions are so great!)

Meg's Baptism

Meggie got baptized on January 2, we are so proud of her for her decision.

It was a great day- shared with so many family and friends.

She was so excited and a little nervous...
Caylor was the man that baptized and confirmed her- So proud of both of them!
(notice that she isn't wearing the zip up jumpsuit... I didn't know that you had options until I was friends with Tonia Jardine... as long as it is all white you are golden. Meg had a little white legging/ sweater outfit- she looked so cute!)

Sunday she got to sit on the stand and be announced in church. She couldn't believe how many people were there... she decided to sit with us after they had her stand up.

We loved her baptism dress! Grandma Viv found it in California... and it was perfect. It was the grown up version of her blessing dress. Ivory with little pearls and a lattice pattern.

Here is her blessing dress. My friend Monica Rueppell owns a bridal store and I chose the fabric and her dress maker made it custom for Meggie. It is amazing!

Meg took such an important step and we are so proud of her and what a special little girl she is. She keeps us on our toes and is a little diva, but we love her so much and are happy at the person she is becoming. All I can say is, "Watch out world!"
