I hope my will is in order!

NO!
Today is the day... the one I would rather sleep through... Today is the day I have to go get my teeth cleaned at the dentist. I would rather go to the OB-GYN, Toys-R-Us, a pet store, and the ARMY. I hate going to the dentist! I have a teeth cleaning, but it usually leads to more... I cry when I have fillings! I have some rotten teeth going on right now and I have actually had a tooth ache. Can anyone say ROOT CANAL? I think this stems from a childhood full of silver teeth. It was nothing to go to the dentist and have 5-6 cavities at a time. I am just sick about this. I probably won't take a xanex today, but one is guaranteed for the day I have to actually have my teeth drilled and filled. I am such a baby.
Think of me as you go about your happy day...
DYING in the Dentist's chair!

My life with Meg...

Yesterday was Meg's 1st grade PATRIOTIC program at school...
We knew the songs...
We had the red shirt, denim blue sparkly mini, white sparkly tights and cute boots...
we had practiced the part...
&
My stupid camera was about out of batteries so I only got a few LAME pictures.
When will I learn?
The very best part of the whole thing was the convesation we had as we were getting Meggie ready for school...
Meg: Mom, I am so tall I have to be on the top row.
Me: That is great, Meg... That way everyone can really see you.
Meg: No... the best place is the bottom row- that way the audience can see your whole outfit!
I am so proud!
I told Caylor that little story and he made sure he told her how he could see her whole darling outfit... He is the best dad ever!

Just Thankful...

This past week I have had Thankful Thursday EVERYDAY!
Here is my story!
Last week my mom, Viv, came to my house to offer support to a girl in her neighborhood and church. The girl, Natalie, is 24 years old... has two daughters ages 16 months and 4 months... that right there would push me over the edge... just wait it gets better.
Natalie was raised in foster care... her biological mother is crazy! When Natalie was 4-5 months pregnant she had to have her gallbladder out. Her husband took her to the hospital and never showed up again. He is some kind of gang banger living in Salt Lake City... LOSER! They are now divorced. She had nobody so she did call her mother for help. Her mother lives in Southern Utah and brought her there to stay and re-coop. One night they got in a fight and the mother started kicking Natalie in the stomach (remember she is pregnant) and so Natalie pushed her off... the mother flew back and fell. She then called the police and had Natalie arrested for domestic abuse... Natalie couldn't make bail so she sat in jail for two weeks. She was then homeless. She and her 9 or 10 month old baby lived in the care and share in St. George for 21 days. She then called a Mormon bishop who helped her get into a rental trailer in my mom's ward. Viv was in the room when she had her baby and has tried to help her get back on her feet. Two weeks ago the baby, Falicity, got sick and was life flighted to Primary Children's Hospital where she had open heart surgery to repair a major birth defect. She wasn't supposed to live through the surgery. While the baby was in PICU my mom and Natalie stayed at my house. My heart has broken as I have watched this darling girl suffer. She is absolutely alone in this world save a few ward friends and people that have reached out to her. Her baby got out of the hospital last Saturday. When I went to St. George she was staying here in Salt Lake with the sister of the Bishop that got her out of the Care and Share. She was supposed to go back to St. George today, but the baby got a cold and is back in Primary Children's Hospital. I hope and pray that she is okay... I am going down today to take Natalie some treats and friendship.
WOW... This is a LONG drawn out story... and I have given the Reader's Digest condensed version. I am so thankful for my life and my own problems. I can't imagine how hard it would be to have a baby so sick... now add without a husband or mother or sisters or any family what-so-ever. Last week I cleaned out my closet and gave her a few things.... you would have thought it was a Neiman Marcus shopping Spree... she was so humble and appreciative! She has NOTHING and is SO grateful for all that she does have. She is a great mom and a really nice, funny person. I have so many things to be thankful for... Holy Cow... I am crying again as I write this. The one thing that has been going over and over in my mind is ... Because I have been given much, I too must give! I am not writing this to get money or sympathy or comments about how great it was I had her stay at my house...but to really publicly be Thankful for all I have!

Yellow!

Today I followed Tiburon's lead and did the color test. I have known about this for years...since I was in high school and I sooooo believe in it. The first time I took it I was 98.9% yellow. When I was teaching school red became a little more of my personality, but I have always been mostly yellow. I have a little bit of blue and usually NO white at all. This little online test that I did today doesn't give you your % of the other colors, just the dominant one! If you aren't familiar with this... you need to take it. It is really funny. I bought the book and think it is so right on!
Yellows (Motive: Fun) 85.13%
Yellows are motivated by Fun. They are inviting and embrace life as a party that they're hosting. They love playful interaction and can be extremely sociable. They are highly persuasive and seek instant gratification. Yllows need to be adored and praised. While yellows are carefree, they are sensitive and highly alert to others' agendas to control them. Yllows typically carry within themselves the gift of a good heart ( this was my profile from the test...below is my own take on it...)
Each color has good and not so good qualities... here are all the colors and some basics of each:
Red: motivated by power... very organized and business-like, self starters, but sometimes a little too power hungry.
Yellow: Motivated by FUN! The party of life! Lots of fun, very charismatic, quite positive... sometimes a little shallow, centered on instant gratification, and flighty...not too organized.
Blue: Motivated by relationships. Very loyal... and worried about people. Very dutiful and worried about doing the right thing. Sometimes can be too hung up on the task and can also be self-righteous.
White: Motivated by Peace. Peace-keepers... want to be left alone and DO NOT want any conflict at all! These are sometimes very creative and seem to be in a world all their own. The down side to this color is they are silently stubborn... you CAN not force them to do anything they don't want to do...
Thi is such a fun little test, but also has really helped me in my relationships with people. My man is a red/blue combo... that with a yellow is interesting. The book even talks about different colors and their relationships. I am not a self-help reader ( it just isn't fun enough for me..haha), but this book is awesome.
P.S. Tiburon was red... go over to her blog and read her profile...

Food, Blogging, Drinking, Eating...what could be better?

This past weekend I was in sunny, but cold, St. George at a baseball tourney... the ride down and back was consumed with this little jewel... Julie & Julia- My year of Cooking Dangerously

This is a memoir of Julie Powell and her quest to figure out her life. She takes on the "project" of cooking every recipe in Julia Child's recipe book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, in one year. It is hilarious! She debones a duck, murders lobster, and all the while is blogging about it. This took place in 2002...she blogged before blogging was really popular. Now her story is being made into a movie starring Meryl Streep. I am so curious about Julia Child now, I want to find some old TV reruns of her show. I didn't know she was 6'2". Who knows maybe I will master the art of French Cooking...NOT! This is a great read! There are so many wonderful passages about the ups and downs of blogging... funny culinary disasters... and just funny life happenings. You can still read the blog here
P.S. Thanks Chalyce for the book! LOVED IT!
Enjoy!

He's a keeper!

My Man! He is such a keeper! He is a profound hater of Valentines Day...thinks it is a commercial scam man that sometimes forgets Valentines Day. Last Sunday he had a a total surprise for me... an early Valentines Day gift! Needless to say, I was surprised about more than one thing! He got me an ipod touch and had loaded all my music onto it! So sweet!
My family all got these for Christmas, but I am not really a music junkie... I have my XM in my car and that is good enough for me, so... I just kept my little vintage nano rockin'. The boys have loved theirs and Caylor has become a facebook fiend now thanks to the ipod touch. ( Mindi teases him calling it his blog-lite. He does have a blackberry touch phone, but it doesn't float his boat like the ipod does)
So I have started playing around on it... it is fun and way different than my other ipod. Mitch told me about Pandora Radio and it has rocked my world the last few days. It is like having a massive music collection on shuffle. Songs that I had forgotten about, but loved are the little surprises that just pop right up! Let me tell you... Cyndi Lauper radio is pretty darn amazing! I know I am probably the very last person on Earth to know about this...for I am NOT a techie, but it is the best ever!
So... back to my man... He is the best and I love it when he can pull a little surprise out on me. I am usually a little snoop it takes alot to surprise me- I guess you could call me a busy-body. Caylor is definitely a keeper!

I know someone famous!

I know someone famous! Well... I blog with someone famous & have talked to her on the phone!
Sherry, from Creations from my Heart, entered an apron contest and WON!
Her gorgeous, totally dressy apron appears in this month's Apron-ology magazine!

I told her I wanted to wear it to a fancy schmancy party, but then realized I don't have anything THAT fancy schmancy... It is beautiful! She is so talented and so creative.... I want to be her when I grow up! Congrats to Sherry... What an accomplishment!

I don't think this apron is for when you cook spaghetti sauce...

Tanja!

The answer to the question you've all been dying to know... Yes! Tanja is just as darling kindof so dang cute and tiny that you hate her and sweet and fabulous in real life as you have come to realize by reading her blog!
I know this is an OLD blog according to Mindi, but I was out of town and basically out to lunch. I stole the photos because I loved the one of us looking to see if we got our best side.
We had such a great time! Viv didn't know what to think about meeting someone over the internet... she was worried that she was going to be some kind of wierdo cyber crazy that was going to kill Mindi and I. I am so glad she wasn't! I am currently trying to get Tanja to move closer, but I think we might have scared her a bit...we were a few of the first Mormons she had ever met. Just kidding.... she is so dang cute and I think she even liked us. Plus... I totally want to be her friend because she was riding sweet in a private jet. The lunch was good, the scenery was amazing, the company was beyond wonderful... a true success! We will have to get her to visit one weekend for a blogger retreat!

Brought to you by the letter...

Tanja played a new game on her blog... I decided I wanted to play along, and she assigned me the letter M. Now, this is going to sound so dumb, but M is one of my favorite letters in the alphabet. I love the way it looks... So here is a little bit about Moi... according to the letter M.

1. My first home was a Mortuary...yes, you heard me right. As a new baby I was taken from the hospital to the mortuary because that is where we lived. My dad is a Mortician... it answers a lot of questions!

2. My Man- Caylor is the best ever... I love him Madly! Calling him "my man" is something a crazy little friend of mine started and we all followed suit. That crazy little friend is mentioned below.

3. Mitch- My oldest son. Loved the name Mitchell when I read the book, "The Firm". He is a great boy... smart, funny, handsome, athletic, and just an all around good kid!

4. my Middle boy, Jacks- I couldn't go on and on about my other M kids without mentioning Jackson. He is such a sweet boy!He is my little giant...TALL and skinny. He is a huge help and just a funny, great kid!

5. Meg- Meggie is the little princess that runs this house! She is independant, smart, darling, and always a little sassafrass! I was so excited to have a girl and she was worth the wait.

6. I love being a MoM- I am lucky to be able to stay home with my kids. Somedays are challenging, but I've got the best job in the world!! ( Cheezy... I know!)

7. my MoM- I know I talk alot about Viv, but you've just got to know that she is the absolute BEST! I am headed to St. George this week for a little bit of PARTYtime... I just can't wait, my mom rocks!

8. Money- Not so much earning it, more interested in spending it! I really love to shop! In my next life I am going to come back filthy rich!

9. Milk Chocolate- I am a lover of milk chocolate...none of that bittersweet or semi sweet junk. I also like mocha... basically I like anything that is really sweet, has lots of calories, and not good for you!

10. Memories- One of the basic needs and highest priorities in my life is having fun. It can be a huge personality flaw or just a good time, depending upon the time, place, and who is involved! Making fun memories is something I think should be mandatory each day!

** Here are a few other things I love that start with the letter M... Mac Make-up, MOVIES, Mindi, Monica, More of something great!

This is a M pillow on Meg's bed...LOVE IT, It was the what inspired me to do her room in black, cream, cheetah, and sassafrass.

Have a MARVELOUS day!
If you want to play along...just fill in the info below and I will leave "your"letter as a comment on your blog!

The pin cusion is so dang cute, but Sherry is the queen of presentation... It came all wrapped in pink tissue paper and in a matching gift bag! I love this girl!

This is How I feel most days... The Mom song!

The Mom Song!
I know this has been around the blog a time or two, but I thought it was so dang funny. I especially loved it when my sister, Jody, called singing it. Her version might have been rated PG-13. This is how I feel most days...enjoy it and have a great weekend! Thanks to Tammy for the hook-up on the mad video skills...she's a keeper!

CELEBRATE!

Is this something to celebrate or what? I totally lucked out today and scored lunch with Kami! I had met her one other time, but have been a huge fan of her blog... her cute little kids... her magazine star quality, but most importantly...HER! We had a great time just laughing and chatting... She is so dang cute and such a sweet, fun person to talk to!
Blogging has allowed me to meet so many new friends... some I have met in real life and others that are really old ,weird men that are preying on the young, hot, innocent mothers that are longing for friendship and comments from Mindi -just in the computer or maybe just in my own mind. Whatever... I am glad I blog and I am glad to have met some amazing people...
Thanks Kami for the great lunch date... let's do it again!
p.s. did you notice my striking? Again... thanks to blogging friends to show me the cool things available in the blogosphere.
p.s.s if that doesn't make sense...sorry- I have taken a tylenol PM so I should be going to bed instead of trying to type.

Thankful Thursday...

This week this is what I am thankful for...
1. Tammy has a cute "Thankful Thursday" thing that I stole... being thankful is a good thing, and being thankful while looking cute is a great thing... thanks, Tammy!
2. I am thankful to live in a country where the position of President is transferred with pomp and circumstance, not bullets and blood shed.
3. I am thankful that I was born with really thick hair, because I am loosing it at an alarming rate... It is good I had three heads full to begin with... I am down to just one.
4. I am thankful for friends, both real live ones, and blogging ones that help me get by with both my real life & my blogging blunders.
5. I am thankful for Caylor and how hard he works... I know I am so lucky to be able to stay home...

44!

Yesterday...WOW! What a day. Now, remember a few things... * I am a history major (aka major history nerd) * I don't want to get all political on my blog * I am a media junkie!
Add those things together and it makes yesterday a GREAT day.
There are a few things I know for sure...
I was a witness to history...
I couldn't turn the TV off... even watching and hearing the same things over and over again.
George W. Bush slept better last night than he has in 8 years!
President and Laura Bush were very regal...left proud.
The crowd sucked towards Pres. Bush!
Barack and Michelle Obama were amazing!
I can't help but wonder why anyone would really want this job...

Loved watching them at the Inaugural Balls... I think they are perfect for each other!

Can these two be any cuter? I loved the matching coats and scarves...
It cracked me up how everyone was so impressed that they were very affordable from J. Crew... Part of me wanted them to be totally decked out... their dad is being sworn in as the leader of the free world for heaven's sake! I wanted fur and diamonds...yeah- right!
My friend Kamari's little boy Max heard their ages and said, " Mom, I could date the President's daughters!" If there is one thing that Barack Obama has shown... it is
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
Good Luck, Max!
Meg and I were talking about how little Sasha Obama is her same age... Meg said, " Wow, She is my age and she lives in the White House! Her dad is the President of the United States! I think my dad should try-out for that job!"
No Thanks, Meg!
We like to live the quiet normal little life we live!
I can tell from the last Obama post I did there aren't many fans... ( 5 comments that day), but history was made, change can be good, and Michelle Obama's clothes were great!
That is political as I will get for a long long time...

I get by with a little help from my friends!

My total blesbian stalkee friend Tanja just showed me how to do the what I really think, but am a little nervous to actually say it out loud strike-out trick. She is a babe! Thanks... now if someone would tell me how to get something off U-tube and be able to put it right in a post that would be greatly appreciated. Remember... to talk slow and give lots of directions because I am a freakin' idiot little bit challenged in the computer smarts department. Also, I am wandering how to be so cute and add the little hearts, as in shapes, to my post...

P.S. If there are any other cool tips and secrets you can reveal about the wonderful world of blog... hook me up! oh...yeah...where do you get all those really great ways to change pictures and stuff. I am so clueless!

Monday, January 19, 2009

I can't wait to watch this week's festivities...

I can't wait to watch the festivities surrounding the inauguration of Barack Obama
It is going to be Kennedy-like glam... Hollywood meets Washington!
Yesterday, I watched the We Are One Inauguration Celebration from the Lincoln Memorial... AMAZING. I think Sundance is taking a huge hit on star power this year because anyone who's anyone is in Washington DC. I think this is going to be a good thing... I haven't wanted to get political on my blog and I don't really want to now.. I just think this week is going to be history in the making... and remember I am a history nerd!

I love it... but I hate it!

I am involved in a love hate relationship: My laundry room... I love it, but I hate it! Last week Tammy posted the question about laundry rooms, front load washer and dryers, etc. My laundry room is one of my favorite in my house... yet the one I hate the most! When I was building my house I was certain I needed a big laundry/work station/etc... Now it isn't Mindi's gigantic laundry room/craftroom/20X20 masterpiece... but it is more than a closet. The problem with having it bigger than a closet is...it can become a mess that is much larger than a closet. In fact, Tammy inspired me to clean it up and blog about it. Caylor came home from work yesterday and walked in the laundry room and then walked out with a dazed look on his face...he said, "Amy, did you know there were two counter-tops in the laundry room?" VERY FUNNY! Let's just say I just cleaned up the explosion called Christmas.
I love my Costco clothes bins... I actually had my cabinets built around them. I have two sets, one on each side of my washer & dryer... The cabinet builder thought I was a crack-head when I brought them to his shop to be measured so they would for sure fit UNDER the counter-top.
When I decided to do a blog I was wondering what to call it... I was doing laundry and BAM- inspiration struck! I have the vinyl lettering "A little of this & a little of that" above my washer and dryer... TADA- My blog is named! It is a good thing there is some inspiration happening in there because laundry has a hard time happening.

Here is one of my favorite things about my laundry room... anyone who is a ribbon whore, I mean someone who likes ribbon, needs one of these little babies! It is the ribbon holder from ROD WORKS. Best money I have ever spent... I have just taken all my Christmas ribbon off and added my everyday ribbon. It can hold like 45 spools of ribbon. AMAZING! This was a crazy little tour around the room I love, yet hate in my house. When it is clean and laundry free...LOVE IT! When it is "loaded" I hate it...but the good things is- there is a door and I can just walk out, turn off the light and shut it out from the rest of the world. The bad things is... this happens too often.
Here is my question to you... Do you have a love/hate realtionship going on with something in your house... if so... do share! Let it out!
